Hearing aids aren’t one-size-fits-all. Each style caters to unique preferences and hearing needs. Let’s explore the six main hearing aid styles:
Invisible-in-Canal (IIC): IIC hearing aids are the tiniest and most discreet option available. They are custom-made to fit deep within the ear canal and are virtually invisible when worn. They are suitable for mild to moderate hearing loss.
Completely-in-Canal (CIC): CIC hearing aids are the smallest and most discreet style, designed to fit entirely within the ear canal. They are almost invisible when worn and are suitable for mild to moderate hearing loss.
In-the-Canal (ITC): ITC hearing aids are smaller than ITE models and fit partially in the ear canal. They are less visible but may have slightly fewer features due to their compact size.
In-the-Ear (ITE): ITE hearing aids are custom-made to fit inside the ear canal. They are less visible than BTE models and come in two variations: full shell (fills most of the bowl-shaped area of the ear) and half shell (fits in the lower portion of the ear).
Receiver-in-Canal (RIC) or Receiver-in-the-Ear (RITE): RIC hearing aids are similar to BTE models but are more discreet. They have a small receiver or speaker in the ear canal connected by a thin wire to the main body of the hearing aid, which sits behind the ear.
Behind-the-Ear (BTE): These hearing aids are worn behind or on top of the ear and are connected to a custom earmold or earpiece that fits inside the ear canal. BTE hearing aids are known for their durability, suitability for various degrees of hearing loss, and larger battery capacity.
